Cultural community
Overview
All learning is cultural, and every student enters the classroom with unique stories, languages, values, and ways of understanding the world. When we recognize that culture is always present, learning becomes meaningful and connected to students’ real experiences and communities, and teaching gains purpose as students see themselves reflected in the curriculum and contribute through their cultural identities. This site guides you in creating a Cultural Learning Community, an educational tool where students build and share their cultural profiles, strengthening their identity, recognizing diversity, and developing research, writing, and responsible AI skills while contributing to a living, collaborative knowledge space. You will learn how to design and implement a Cultural Learning Community in your classroom, creating step by step a collaborative environment in which students explore and express their cultural identities while practicing communication, critical thinking, and research skills.
The course is organized into six steps, completed over six weeks at your own pace. You will find:
CONCEPTUAL framework: the ideas, theories, or foundations you need to understand to move forward.
Applied PRACTICES: concrete, interactive, and technology-supported activities to build and enrich your community.
PERSONAL reflection: a brief moment to evaluate your process and recognize your progress.
Projection or NEXT step: guidance on how to apply what you learned and what comes next in developing your community.
